The dab fish, an oval bodied flatfish, inhabits sandy or muddy seabeds and feeds on small invertebrates. They have delicate, mild-flavored white flesh and are often pan-fried, baked, or grilled. Although less famous than some flatfish, dabs are enjoyed for their subtle taste and soft texture.

The dab fish, scientifically known as Limanda limanda, is a flatfish species. Dabs are known for their distinctive flat and oval-shaped bodies, which are well-suited for a life spent on the seafloor. They have both eyes on one side of their body, which is usually the right side, while the left side remains white and relatively featureless. This eye placement allows dabs to lie flat on the seabed, with their colored side facing upwards, providing excellent camouflage and helping them ambush prey.

Dabs primarily inhabit sandy or muddy seabeds, where they feed on small invertebrates like worms, crustaceans, and other tiny marine organisms. They are typically small in size, with an average length of around 20 to 30 centimeters (8 to 12 inches), although they can grow slightly larger.

They are known for their delicate, white flesh and mild flavor, making them a popular choice for consumption, often prepared by pan-frying, baking, or grilling. While they may not be as well-known as some other flatfish species like flounder or sole, dabs are a tasty option enjoyed by those who appreciate their subtle taste and soft texture.
